Poker Hall of Fame Finalists Stir Up Debate, Fedor Chops WCOOP $102k for $1M

The WSOP has announced the 2016 finalists for the Poker Hall of Fame and, as usual, the list is producing controversy with Daniel Negreanu, among others, calling the list "bizarre." 

Meanwhile, Fedor Holz continues to win millions. Over the weekend he chopped the PokerStars WCOOP $102,000 Super High Roller for just over $1 million.

2016 WSOP Breaks Multiple Records Including Total Entries

The 2016 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is in the books, save for the November Nine, and this year's series has crushed several records including total entries and number of events paying $1 million or more to the winner.

888poker has also dominated the news this week.

The parent company of 888poker, 888 Holdings, and the Rank Group are looking to buy bookmaker and online poker operator William Hill for £3 billion.

888poker also announced its new BLAST poker game, a 4-person, hyper turbo, lottery-style Sit & Go with jackpots up to $300,000.

2016 WSOP Main Event Final Table

Renowned backer Cliff Josephy will lead a solid cast of characters into the November Nine on October 30th. Joining him will be online gaming legend Griffin "Flush_Entity" Benger. 

Meanwhile, Jason Mercier won the 2016 WSOP Player of the Year award after one of the most lopsided contests in years. However, he did have to sweat a bit at the end as Paul Volpe made a deep Main Event run.

Big names Lichtenberger, Rast, Peters win gold at WSOP 2016

Some big names took WSOP gold this past week. 

Andrew "LuckyChewy" Lichtenberger finally earned his first WSOP bracelet – according to him, thanks to healthy living. 

David Peters took his first WSOP bracelet just three days after winning a $25,000 Aria High Roller Event. 

And Brian Rast became just the second player in poker history to win two $50,000 Poker Player Championship events.

Mercier Runs Hot, Lederer Pokes Around at 2016 WSOP

Jason Mercier has enjoyed a blessed run at the 2016 WSOP.

In addition to winning his fourth career bracelet in the $10k 2-7 Championship and winning high six-figures in side bet, he almost went back-to-back and managed a runner-up performance in the $10k Razz.

Meanwhile, Howard Lederer made his expected return to action over the weekend and renewed controversy over his participation in live events. 

While the WSOP is dominating the summer poker news, Chris Moorman managed to steal headlines for another reason. He is the newest brand ambassador for 888poker.

Shakerchi Raids SCOOP Main, Boston Rob FTW, WSOP in 3-2-1…

Hedge fund kingpin Talal Shakerchi took down the Main Event of the 2016 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) this past weekend for $1.46 million.

Boston Rob of Survivor fame can now be called a poker champion after taking down a preliminary event at Run It Up Reno.

And the 2016 World Series of Poker kicks off next week from the Rio in Las Vegas. This year's WSOP features 69 bracelet events along with expanded payouts.

The finalists for the 2016 Class of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame have been announced and fans can take part in the voting.

The once-mighty Full Tilt Poker is also about to be laid to rest. The platform will be merged into PokerStars next week, officially retiring the platform.
