The holiday season is over and the first major poker event of 2017 in now underway. 

In addition, GPI has announced changes to their ranking system.

These changes will help to close the gap between standard and high roller event players. 

Lastly, Stacy Matuson is tired of hearing William Kassouf brag about playing "9 high like a boss" and has challenged him to a heads-up grudge match at an upcoming 888Live event.

2016 was “The Year of Fedor Holz,” or at least that's what it looked like for the majority of the year. 

David Peters apparently didn't get the memo because he put together a last-minute run to steal both major Player of the Year titles. 

After a third-place finish in the EPT Prague main event in December, Peters took the lead in both the CardPlayer and Global Poker Index Player of the Year races and never looked back.

Big names Lichtenberger, Rast, Peters win gold at WSOP 2016

Some big names took WSOP gold this past week. 

Andrew "LuckyChewy" Lichtenberger finally earned his first WSOP bracelet – according to him, thanks to healthy living. 

David Peters took his first WSOP bracelet just three days after winning a $25,000 Aria High Roller Event. 

And Brian Rast became just the second player in poker history to win two $50,000 Poker Player Championship events.

The finalists for the 2016 Class of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame have been announced and fans can take part in the voting.

The once-mighty Full Tilt Poker is also about to be laid to rest. The platform will be merged into PokerStars next week, officially retiring the platform.
