Monday, June 22nd, 2009

As most Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars players are aware, the US government seized $30 million from US banks that held funds  to cover payouts for online poker players. All Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars players have recently been reissued payments that were previously unable to be paid due to the accounts being frozen.
Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars are now asking that their players sign a petition being sent to President Obama to remove poker from UIGEA and to license and regulate internet poker in the US. Each player who signs the petition will be entered into a freeroll at Full Tilt Poker or Poker Stars. Full Tilt Poker players can view the petition and sign up here. Pokerstars players can view the petition and sign up here. For updated information regarding poker regulation in the US check out the Poker Players Alliance.

  • That the game of poker is thought by many historians to have its origin in Chinese dominoes, first played in the Orient 900 A.D?
  • That the game, once introduced in America was frequently played in New Orleanse and Mississippi riverboats, from which it went on to conquer the West.
  • Ex-President Nixon is belived to have financed his presidential campaign with poker winnings from his time in the army during World War 2.
  • Between 40-50 million Americans play poker on a daily basis. This number is somewhat outdated as well, so the real figure can today be expected a bit higher.

Top 5 Phil Hellmuth “The Poker Brat” Moments

Friday, December 12th, 2008

The Poker Brat himselfm Phil Hellmuth shows no sign of cooling down after many years of whining on TV, by the poker tables, in articles, online. The eleven-time winner at WSOP just keeps at it. No doubt a good poker player, but still, even at a professional poker level, moaning over lost hands, bluffs, bad call and bad beats. In recent years he has become known for his behaviour rather tha game and poker skills. He even adapted the nickname “The Poker Brat” as it so elegantly described his posh nature.

in any case, here are a top 5 list of Phil Hellmuth’s most remarkable reactions:

  1. The Patented All-in Call
  2. Table talk whining
  3. A bad read
  4. Some more whining over a bad call
  5. Hellmuth Vs. Durrr

What is your favorite hand in poker?

Friday, December 5th, 2008

doyle-brunson-10-2When me and my buddies gather for our monthly poker night in Joe’s basement, antes and straddling are not the only things applied to make the game somewhat more interesting. With normal buy-in at about $50 a common “extra feature” to the game is picking a pre-flop hand and whoever wins a pot with it also get $1-$2 extra from all players. In our case it is normally the worst possible pre-flop hand in Texas Holdem - 7-2 offsuit.

For poker legend Doyle Brunson however it is 10-2, also knowadays called “The Brunson”. Brunson has won no less than 2 WSOP finals with 10-2. It has simply become one of those hands with special meaning. All poker players have these type of low-outed pre-flop hands that has brought they good fortune in the past. And although it goes against all poker theory and strategy - even the top pros have favorite hands, incosiderate of it’s potential and winning-average.

What is your favorite hand and why?

President Barack Obama plays poker

Friday, November 28th, 2008

After some digging around I found statements from co-working politicians confirming what we all had hoped for our new president. Barack Obama is not a stranger to the game of poker. In fact, according to the sources I found Obama is a tight player, known not to be a gambler but a true follower of odds calculation and good play.

Republican senator Kirk Dillard states in an interview with CNN that former senator and Illinois ligislator Barack Obama used to join his collegues in after hour poker session, where he would not only have a drink but also, and I quote, “bum” a cigarrette from fellow legislators. Though obvious smearing from the republican senator, we can only pray that this is true.

Imagine being invited to a home game session at the White House, sitting at a round table in the basement across to Barack, smoking a cigar and looking down at AA? The stakes? If I would choose it would be my picture on the carpet of the oval office.

Durrr and me in the same boat

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

At least it’s nice to know that I’m in good company as I continue on my loosing streak. Now with a minimal bankroll, it’s back to the freerolls and shorthanded sitngo’s for me. And as I pounder the halls of the Fulll Tilt lobby I recently read that super online poker pro “Durrr”, also playing at FTP, isn’t doing so well either. After loosing about $146,000 on a bluff against OMGClayAiken, Tom “Durrr” Dwan is supposedly in total down about $500,000. He has a quite large bankroll and will most defenielty be ok as the top money maker online with a total of $2,451,033, but in a way it’s nice to know that even the pros can loose money on doubtable hands.

SitnGo’s & Tourneys Vs Cash game

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Hey everybody!

The last couple of days I have been completely dedicated to sitngo’s and tournaments rather than focusing on my regular cash game. I always find it good to change my game a bit when things aren’t going my way at the cash game tables. It is more relaxing in a way, because compared to when I play cash game I normally have four tables up at the same time that requires my full attention. But as for a multi table sitngo or tournament I can allow myself to do other stuff during the game.

Of course real tournament play should be done with 100 % focus, but as an alternative to your regular cash game it fills a different purpose than just winning and sucking out as much chips from the fish as possible. I started doing this every time my bankroll was decreasing and I didn’t feel like reloading full buy-in at a cash table where I just got sucked out moments before. I started to sit down a multi table sitngo games where my tilt wouldn’t affect my game as much. 90 players, $3 buy-in, and I could have it in the background, only folding, calling, raising etc whenever I picked up a decent hand.

This more passive way of playing online poker is naturally not a winning strategy, but at least a good way to maintain play when bad beats make you feel like quitting.

Full Tilts Matrix - SitnGo for the Action Junkie!

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

The new way of SitnGo tounaments is here. For days I have done little else but been hooked to the Matrix. Not the Keanu Reeves, black spandex, leader hosen kind of Matrix. No, I’m talking about Full Tilt’s new multi-table sitngo investment where you play 4 individual tables agaist the same 5 (shorthanded) or 9 (full table) players. And you pay only one buy-in stretching between  $1 + $0.25 to $2,100 + $90.

matrix- sitngo 2.0

The rules of a Matrix sitngo is far from clear or easy to comprehend. The game can be NL Holdem, Horse, Omaha Hi, Hi/Lo where nothing is different. It’s how you win the tourney it becomes complicated. Point blank, there are 5 prize pools, 4 for each individual sitngo table and then 1 general. If you win at a table you win the money in the individual prixe pool, nothing strange there. But when it comes to the 5th and general prize pool it becomes a battle between all players over how many “knock out points” and “survival points” one has. The one with the most wins the general prize pool and takes home and additional winning.

I have probably only made this more confusing for you, so I suggest you try one Matrix tourney to see for yourself. Matrix SitnGo’s is truly for the action junkie since players are triggered by the pressure of collecting points while playing on four different tables.

Oh yea, and my bankroll is down to $50 on Full Tilt with about $9 in rakeback. My straights have met higher straights, set beaten by flush and general tight ass competition as soon as I get a decent hand.

Wanna play the next LeTune Challenge?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Still tilted after the last LeTune Challenge I can’t seem to let my final table bust go just yet. When I picked up AA I could finally sigh in relief. It feels so good to just know that you only have one option really - to go all in. At least in my case. I can’t understand how I survived with an average stack of 1500 chips all the way to the final table. I was all-in two times before and I’m sure you guys could smell the bounty, but either I got a full house (44777) or set of Kings to save me.

But I had it coming and of course TNSpacerman calls my 2200 all-in, he was bosing around over there with more than 8,000 in chips. Bummer for me, but it was really nice playing with all of you. You guys got some serious game, the favorite td8507 and winner of last LeCheese Challenge (I think) got busted first :-)

And you know we will arrange more LeTune Challenges in the near future. If you want the chance of taking home some serious freeroll cash, be sure to drop in from time to time and make yourself heard. I’ll keep you posted.

PS. It wouldn’t hurt to motivate why you should get a seating :-)
