What is your favorite hand in poker?

Dec 05, 2008 Categories: News 3 Comments
doyle-brunson-10-2When me and my buddies gather for our monthly poker night in Joe's basement, antes and straddling are not the only things applied to make the game somewhat more interesting. With normal buy-in at about $50 a common "extra feature" to the game is picking a pre-flop hand and whoever wins a pot with it also get $1-$2 extra from all players. In our case it is normally the worst possible pre-flop hand in Texas Holdem - 7-2 offsuit. For poker legend Doyle Brunson however it is 10-2, also knowadays called "The Brunson". Brunson has won no less than 2 WSOP finals with 10-2. It has simply become one of those hands with special meaning. All poker players have these type of low-outed pre-flop hands that has brought they good fortune in the past. And although it goes against all poker theory and strategy - even the top pros have favorite hands, incosiderate of it's potential and winning-average. What is your favorite hand and why?

This isn't exactly a Doyle type quality hand or anything, but it seems to have been (and continue to be) a "lucky" hand for me. I would have to say wired 10's is probably my favourite hand because it seems like instead of flopping a set with them every 8 hands, I flop one every 2 or 3. Maybe it has something to do with online poker (lol) but either way, 1010 is my favourite hand because it seems to flop so well for me.

The pockets are truly wonderful, especially the ones that sets on the board. Often a good enough hand to ensure big pots and monster winnings. Flopped set of 10's on the flop once (with pocket 10's pre) and was all-in after a couple of re-raises against a guy who shows a set of 9's (also pre-flop pocket). A memorable hand that one - about my first on $5/10 NL Holdem. Biggest pot I've ever won too. A juicy $1200 :-) So I agree, pocket 10's have shown me some nice times too.

2 and 3 suited or unsuited! I have won so many times with this pre-flop hand. People don't seem to think of the lower cards. Obviously it helps if there isn't too many people in the hand. Not a great hand but it seems to be 'online' lucky for me.
