It Was More of a LeCheese Disaster

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I wish I could whine about a bad beat, but I can’t. I wish I could say that I got knocked out by a donkey, but also that would be a lie. The truth is I committed a large portion of my stack with top-bottom two pair in Omaha. Clever?

The expected value for folding was sky-rocketing when I decided that this was my hand. I mean, it was so obvious he had AA and nothing more. What did you say, top-two and two outs for me? You must be kidding…

The following hand I caught a set and doubled up. Back again. And the next I managed to get almost all my chips in with AAxx. The flop came J88 with two diamonds. I went all-in, Pking called with all sorts of outs, caught a full house on the river, and received the $100 bounty.

Never mind, this was a nice freeroll altogether. Although certain people seem to give the guy from Donkey Puncher a hard time…. don’t know why.

The LeCheese bracelet went to BadBlood – congratulations!

I’ll be back when it’s time for the next event: LeCheese Revenge.

Thanks y’all

LeCheese Challange – Battle of the Bloggers

Monday, February 25th, 2008

On Wednesday, a unique tournament will take place at Full Tilt Poker. Myself, and a few of Internet’s best poker authors, are going to play a two table sit’n’go and determine who the best poker blogger is … best at playing poker that is. Not writing.

The tournament is sponsored by RakeBrain.com and has the slightly narcissistic name LeCheese Challenge. We’ll play a mixture of Texas Hold’em and Omaha, both in pot-limit format, with stacks a bit deeper than normal. That combination requires a lot of poker skills and it’ll be impossible to go all in all the time. Instead, we have to see flops! Something certain poker players don’t like.

I really look forward to this – $500 to the winner and $100 to the player who knocks me out, if anyone manages to accomplish that.

Participating poker bloggers so far:

John - BadBlood
Drizztdj - Nickle and Dimes
Byron - Biggestron Writes
Scott - Doubleas
Dave - PokerKingBlog
Jason Turner - TripJax
John - SeattleJohnPoker
Jeff - DonkeyPuncher
MrSubliminal - MrSubliminal
Mookie99 - Mookie99
NightRanger - Beer City Poker
Katitude - Katitude
GCox25 - Low Limit Grinder
Frost2 - War Poker Room

Two of the most prominent RakeBrain players will also participate in LeCheese Challenge: JJProdigys Gran and td8507.

Fellow poker bloggers; those are the players we’ve got to take down to stand a chance. I know they play quite a lot of poker – maybe more than all of us combined.

I carry on with low-limit Omaha grinding by the way…

Is Four-Card Straight Better than One Pair?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Some opponents at the Omaha tables are quite weak, and some are just terrible. Minutes ago, I played Omaha heads up against one softest opponent I’ve ever been up against. I won a few hands, and he made a couple of crazy calls with absolutely nothing. Then he wrote.

Vilias: first time playin omaha
Vilias: i get 4 cards
Vilias: and use how many from the flop
Vilias: ?
LECHEESE: 3
LECHEESE: must use 2 from the hand
Vilias: max 3
Vilias: total 5
LECHEESE: only three
Vilias: right?
LECHEESE: best 4 card hand wins
LECHEESE: four straight beats one pair
Vilias: ok

I won a couple of more hands before my newly-found friend said:

Vilias: goin for holdem
Vilias: cu

Vilias, sorry for lying about that straight

My first AAKK Double Suited

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Yesterday I reached a milestone in my Omaha career. I got my first Ace-Ace-King-King double suited – the best possible starting hand in Omaha. Whatever, you might think. But this isn’t Hold’em where the best starting hand comes around every 250 hand or so. This is goddamn Omaha, and statistically I have to wait 50,000 hands before I receive it again.

Yes it’s true. The odds against getting A-A-K-K double suited are 50,000 to 1. And still, you’re not always that big favourite with it. If you’re up against some sort of middle connectors like 8-7-6-5 double suited, your advantage is somewhere in the range of 3 to 2.

So how did it go for me? Well, the flop came Q J T rainbow. In other words, stone-cold nuts. The turn came 5h, still the nuts. The river came Ah. Now there were three hearts on the board.

My opponent had J T 9h 4h. Bummer!

I’m not mad; I’ll just patiently wait for my next opportunity to play AAKKds. Unfortunately, I’ve only played 2-3,000 Omaha hands; so statistically, I have to wait almost 100,000 more hands…

I’ll get back to you when it happens.

I Can Not Believe How Much Money People Rake

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

According to my RakeBrain stats, I’ve raked $160 so far this month, which is quite a lot at my level. I’m looking forward to a whopping $62 in rakeback this month. But unfortunately, I just took a peak at the Full Tilt Rake Race leader board and realized that I don’t rake that much after all.

The RakeBrain rake race, which is underway at Full Tilt Poker, is a competition about raking the most money during February. The winner will receive $2,000, the runner-up $1,250, and all in all, 50 players receive prize money.

This is obviously a great deal for those who play a lot of poker. Personally, I’m quite far away from battling in the top-rakers’ division. Currently, the best player, JJProdigys Gran, has paid almost $9,000 in rake this month.

That is utterly unbelievable and very impressive.

Keep up the good work goddamn grinders!

…and my bankroll has shrunken a bit…

Increase Your Rakeback with Bonuses

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Sometimes you don’t have to choose between bonuses and rakeback, and instead get both. When selecting a poker site that allows you to clear a bonus while earning rakeback, you will increase poker profit substantially.

If you’re in the process of finding the best rakeback deal, try to choose one where bonuses are NOT deducted. Information about this is found in the RakeBrain reviews.

In some cases, you can also earn bonuses after you’ve created an account, so-called reload bonuses. I’ve seen that Inter Poker, where I currently reside, offers a monthly $200 bonus players can earn on to of their regular rakeback.

Since it’s quite hard to earn the higher rakeback percentages at InterPoker (you must rake over $1,000 per month,) this is a great way to increase the winnings. If you can be bothered with the hassle of making new deposits every month, there’s always extra money up for grabs.

I’ve carried on with my low-limit Omaha grinding by the way, and it still pays off. Search for LeCheese at Cryptologic’s $0.10/$0.25 tables, and chances are good that I’m sitting there pushing around chips with all sorts of draws.
