US DOJ Begins Accepting Claim for AP/UB Balances
The big bombshell dropped on the online poker community on Monday was that the U.S. Department of Justice is now beginning to process claims for former players on Absolute Poker (AP) and UB.
The Garden City Group is once again processing claims and has launched www. AbsolutePokerClaims.com for those wishing to try to reclaim their former bankrolls.
According to the site players can request the last known account balance with Absolute Poker. While UB is not specifically named, UB balances are indeed available as well as the two sites were joined on the Cereus Poker Network.
Unlike the Full Tilt Poker remission process players don't need to be contacted by Garden City Group to file a claim online. All you need is your username and email address you played under back in 2011.
Numerous high-profile players and industry personnel have revealed via Twitter that their balances are indeed showing up correctly, with amounts ranging anywhere from a few pennies to tens of thousands of dollars.
According to the site claims will be paid out dependant on available funds. If claims exceed the amount of forfeited funds by Absolute Poker, then players will be paid on a "pro rata" basis with some assuming that to mean pennies on the dollar.
Also, the remission process for AP is a short one with the deadline set at June 9, 2017.
Daniel Weinman Wins WPT Tournament of Champions
The WPT Tournament of Champions concluded over the weekend with a few superstars of poker making the final table.
This is the second year that the WPT has held the TOC and this year's version got a minor boost in attendance.
A field of 66 took to the felt this past Friday with about half of that total making Day 2. By the time the final table was reached on Saturday all eyes were on two of the game's biggest names.
Hall of Famer Erik Seidel came into the final table fourth in chips with a 54 big blind stack. Joining him was Michael Mizrachi who came into the final table second in chips with 70 big blinds.
Last year, Mizrachi finished third in the TOC and was looking to improve on that finish. Others making the final table were Dylan Wilkerson, David Ornsby, Daniel Santoro and Daniel Weinman.
Seidel was unable to get any momentum at the final table and with 10 big blinds left, he shoved with Ad-5h. Santoro called with Ks-Jd and spiked a jack on the flop to eliminate Seidel in 5th place.
Mizrachi made it to heads-up play against Weinman but was facing a 5:1 chip deficit. He did manage to battle back and nearly pulled to even after a double-up where his K-J outran Weinman's A-6.
The turning point of the match was a monster pot where Weinman pulled off what was called a massive bluff. At the river, the board showed 10h-6c-3h-6h-8c and Weinman bet enough to put Mizrachi all-in.
This event used a shot clock, meaning Mizrachi couldn’t go deep into the tank and he was out of time extensions at this point. He eventually folded and claimed he folded a flush. Weinman showed 9s-8h for a pair of eights and a missed straight draw.
After that hand, Mizrachi was left with just 1 million in chips and he soon lost those when his pocket fives failed to hold against the A-8 of Weinman.
Daniel Weinman won the 2017 WPT Tournament of Champions for $381,500 along with several other fabulous prizes that included a 2018 Audi S5 Coupe.
This was Weinman's second title of Season XV. Back in January he won the Borgata Poker Open to earn his seat in the TOC. After his TOC victory Weinman has over $2.6 million in live tournament earnings.
