More About Americas Cardroom
Americas Cardroom - The Rundown:
America’s Cardroom has a long, storied history that dates all the way back to the early 2000s and the emerging poker boom.
After going through numerous name changes and software updates the site has re-emerged as one of the prominent players in the US poker market.
These days the site is the flagship room for the Winning Poker Network, which has been building momentum over the last couple years.
America’s Cardroom is focused primarily on Hold’em and PLO but it does a great job of offering those games at numerous stakes. You’ll also find Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven-Card Stud and Stud-8 but those games rarely run.
While not the biggest online poker site America’s Cardroom has been steadily building a player base over the last few years and generally hovers around being a top 10 site in terms of traffic. That could change soon, however, with more and player players flocking to the Winning Poker Network.
America’s Cardroom has been running some rather aggressive sign-up promotions lately and that’s a huge part of the reason why traffic has been building.
Another reason is that America’s Cardroom is generally considered to have a pretty low level of play. Skill level on a poker site is always in flux but for some reason America’s Cardroom and the Winning Poker Network overall has managed to attractive a soft player base.
America’s Cardroom also offers a casino, which likely contributes in pushing some fish onto the tables. It’s a great site to get your start playing poker.
Three Killer Features on America’s Card Room:
1. Bad players
2. Decent tournament action with a $50k Sunday Special
3. Still-growing player base
The America’s Cardroom software has gone through numerous iterations over the years but the current WPN version is definitely the best yet.
It’s a rather bare-bones poker client but that’s not necessarily bad as it’s not nearly as cluttered as it used to be.
America’s Cardroom is available for both Windows and Apple Computers.
The client offers some decent game variety in Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven-Card Stud and even 32-Card Draw.
Don’t expect to find many of those games running, however, as Hold’em and Omaha make up the bulk of the action.
The system requirements for America’s Cardroom are also very low and any laptop made within the last 10 years will likely be able to run the site. It only takes up 30mb of hard drive space, which is practically nothing these days.
The site’s software does offer a few cool features that you won’t find anywhere else such as blind-chopping, which can significantly speed up games.
You can also straddle (double the big blind from the next spot over without seeing your cards), which adds a lot more action to the cash games. If you like playing loose and fast (or just picking off loose players) then you’ll likely enjoy the straddle.
One of the more interesting parts of the software is that Bitcoin is accepted, which is a marked difference from some of the other mainstream poker sites and gives players some options.
Promotions and Loyalty Program:
America’s Cardroom offers a very unique twist on a loyalty program. On the site you can actually choose between rakeback or the Elite Benefits VIP Program.
Both are good and there are a lot of cool perks to going with Elite Benefits such as numerous cash prizes, but rakeback is hard to beat.
You can get a standard 27% rakeback for signing up a new account which means even if you’re a break-even player you’ll still be making a slight profit.
With the Elite Benefits VIP Program you’ll be accumulating frequent player points every time you’re dealt in a hand.
Either way you can switch your preferred loyalty program at any time if you feel that you made the wrong decision when you signed up.
America’s Cardroom is definitely focused on cash games but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some good tournaments. You’ll find plenty of low-stakes Sit & Go’s but there are some pretty big tournaments if you want to venture into the bigger buy-in MTT arena.
The flagship tournament is the weekly $50,000-GTD Sunday Special, which rivals Sunday Majors on competing sites.
The $50,000-GTD prize pool is nothing to sneeze at but one of the major perks of ACR is that you’ll generally run into a lower caliber of player. That can be a nice change of pace when you’re used to going up against an army of hard-core grinders on competing sites.
In addition, America’s Cardroom recently introduced The Big 10 series of tournaments, which feature guaranteed prize pools of $500 to $15,000 every single day. That means there is a Big 10 tournament starting every hour and the buy-ins start at just $3.30.
The Big 10 is definitely something online MTT players will want to keep a close eye on if they sign up for America’s Cardroom.
Americas Cardroom uses the contributed rakeback method, which means that you have to put money into the pot to become eligible for rakeback. Tournament fees are included in net rake and 100% of bonuses are deducted. Rakeback payments are done every Wednesday for the previous week of game play.
Each time you contributes $0.01 to the house rake, you earn 1 Frequent Player Point. Points are accumulated by playing at the real money ring games and by paying tournament fees. FPP can be used to a) buy-in for different types of tournaments and b) be exchanged for cash. The FPPs accumulated are viewable in the CASHIER in the poker app section "Bonuses and Rebates".
The 27% Rakeback, paid every Wednesday, calculated with the rake generated during the previous Monday to Sunday week of play.
